Wait just a second. Do not merchant all gold cruddy weapons to the merchant.

I got a flame artifact in eye of the north and sold it for 10K. It was a req 9 but the skin is different than the other flame artifacts.

So spend the time learning what sells and what does not. The easiest way to do that is with a note book to start. Find someone selling a weapon for 10K+ and write down the name of the player and the item's name and stats. Then after a bit pm him and ask if it is sold. IF it is, ask the price. 99% of the people will tell you the truth.

Also you can do a "PC on X" in local chat. Normally you will get a response in seconds. Sometimes you get, "Are you buying or selling x" if selling BAM there is your sale just come up with a price. If you say 50K and they are like your nuts you can say opps I pressed the wrong number it should have been 20K.

This might seem lame but it works.

Example, I have a Vampiric Long Sword in Presearing. I did a PC and someone said that they will buy it off of me for 30K before I could blink. In that case I knew I was going to get ripped off by over 270K cause its worth over 300K.

helps? well, yes and no.
yes: now I know how I can easily PC something... should've thought of it myself. I might even sell the crap...!!
no: sounds like I can sell almost anything and shouldn't merch any of it... eurgh... back to square one.
looks different than normal flame artifacts. ok. that must be this staff with the eye on top
that reminds me: what about greens? will add that to OP.

One of the best ways to PC items is to use the Price Check forum and the pricing guides, on here. When I was wanting to know if something was worth something, I would search the price check forums for recent prices, but unfortunately, search is disabled atm.
A lot of it depends upon how much time you want to put into selling. Standing around Kamadan or LA for hours can get boring. I used to sell 99% of my stuff through Guru Auctions.
I merch a lot of stuff now that I used to sell, but I really don't need the gold any more, especially with the new Zaishen quests. Many people will tell you to merch stuff, but all that 1 to 5k stuff can add up really quickly.
